AsymSpec retains about 90% of full-context quality
Reported 1.3–1.7-fold throughput gains and 0.2–0.3 relative compute apply to isolated text capabilities, not a measured whole-agent guarantee.
AsymSpec studies asymmetric speculative decoding with a full-context drafter and a compressed-context verifier. The paper reports roughly 90% of the full-context baseline’s accuracy across its evaluated agent capabilities. That relative retention is not an absolute 90% task success rate.
For isolated text capabilities, the reported throughput improvement is 1.3–1.7 times and compute is 0.2–0.3 of the baseline. Integrated agent behavior has additional costs, including tools and context handling; the isolated measurements should not be presented as universal end-to-end savings.
Measure target-task quality and the full latency/cost budget before choosing a compression policy. The original article’s headline and broad cost interpretation have been narrowed to the tested conditions.
Editorial correction (2026-10-13 UTC): Restored relative quality and isolated-capability conditions.
